Simple Poncho with Lacey Stripes


Needles: US10 needles

Yarn:
  • Main Color (MC): Caron Simply Soft Medium/Worsted Weight, (1) skeins of 315 yards each, “Country Blue” #9710
  • Contrasting Color (CC): Caron Simply Soft Medium/Worsted Weight, (1) skein of 315 yards each, “Dark Country Blue” #9711

CO: 54 sts in MC

Set Up Rows: 
1.       MC: Knit
2.       MC: Knit
3.       MC: Knit
4.       CC: Knit

Pattern Rows (do 11 sets): 
1.      MC: Knit
2.      MC: *K1, yo* to end
3.      MC: Knit all, dropping yo’s
4.      MC: Knit
5.      CC: Knit
6.      MC: Knit
7.      MC: *K1, yo (wrap 2x)* to end
8.      MC: Knit all, dropping yo’s
9.      MC: Knit
10.    CC: Knit

Do this pattern series 11 times), then do the Ending Rows.

Ending Rows: 
1.     MC: Knit
2.     MC: Knit
3.     CC: Knit
4.     CC: Knit
5.     CC: Knit
6.     CC: Knit
7.     CC: Knit
8.     CC: Knit
9.     CC: Knit

This is your first rectangle. The one shown measures 20" x 28" (unblocked). (Note: this is really stretchy, so it is very forgiving.) 

Make a second rectangle of the same size, then follow the finishing instructions below to sew it together. (Before you sew it, pay attention to the “hole” left for the next. It shouldn’t be too big – not more than 14” for this size. If you do think the hole might be too big, you can bring the edge in, on the side that says “sew” below a few inches, to narrow the hole. I did this recently, and it still looks really nice.)

FINISHING

Sew end of second piece to side of first piece as shown in diagrams below.

  3. I had to buy another skein of the main color, not sure what I did wrong. It is a great pattern.
